Does God Really Go Camping?

Does God Really Go Camping?

Accomplish (Dictionary): To succeed in completing, to carry out a plan or a promise.
Accomplish (Bible): Do or make; come to an end; complete; to work; labor; to perfect.

In Psalm 138, David speaks about his answered prayers and goes on to praise God in verses 1-6. He then speaks about God’s protecting hand:

Psalm 138: 7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. 8The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. (NASB)

As we look at this passage, there is such depth here! For example:
• “The LORD will accomplish”… The word “accomplish” here is that of completion or to perfect. It is the picture of an artist completing a painting.
• “..what concerns me;”… The word “concern’ comes from a root word that means “to be behind, around or through”. It is completeness in us!
• His hand is on us for protection while it is also against our enemy.
• And He will (mentioned 4X) do all these things-it’s a promise. Will revive, will stretch forth His hand, will save and will accomplish.

This is a great picture of God at work in David’s life. The Lord is shown as being involved in a complete way AND FOR ALL THAT CONCERNS US! His intent is to finish what He has started in us. He is the potter and we are His clay.

Psalm 139: 1-6: 1 LORD, You have searched me and known me. 2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. 3You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. 4Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all. 5You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.(NAS)

Psalm 139, like Psalm 138 again shows the Lord’s intimacy with us.

• “You have enclosed me behind and before.” The word “enclosed” literally means to “encamp or confine”. So the picture here is that of an army encamped in front of us and behind us. WOW!
• Not only that , but the Psalmist says that God’s hand is laid upon us within this encampment! The word “laid” means to literally “place upon”.

Psalm 34:7: 7The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe] and each of them He delivers.(AMP)

1 Peter 5: 6,7: 6Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, 7Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.(AMP)

So we see our Lord THROUGHY ACCOMPLISHING all that CONCERNS us while placing His hand upon us and surrounding (protecting) us while He does His work in our lives. As we minister, let us convey the need to fully grasp what 1 Peter 5: 6,7 says. There are some who have deep concerns and need reassurance that God is really there-and cares deeply for them.

John 1:14: 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (NASB).

The word “dwelt” in the Greek is “skenoo” which literally means to pitch or live in a tent and dwell in an intimate communion with the resurrected Christ.

There are so many words of encouragement in the Bible and with those words comes promises from God. All of us need to focus on those promises and really get a hold of them. Even when there is a tremendous battle going on in our lives, God is there! Remember Gods promises in scripture.

Romans 5:1-2 5Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

Hebrew 13:5-6: Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?(MSG)

Yes, God does go camping- and I am really glad He does!!

Father God thank You for placing us in a safe place in You. Help us to remember that You have placed Your hand of protection on each of us.
