Changing Diapers

So here’s what happened. A young father was observed by one of the staff taking diaper changing duty with his children. But where could he go? It started the ball rolling, and we immediately installed a diaper changing table in the men’s bathroom. It’s a beautiful thing! The whole experience got me thinking. So I suggested to someone that we put a sign on the changing table: “The man who changes a diaper changes the world!” I thought it was brilliant…simply a revelation from the Holy Spirit, and that God had spoken to......

Someone who knows me saw my broken computer screen and said to me, “Crossroads is where technology comes to die.” That’s the second computer screen I have cracked in 3 years. Late last week, I dropped my cell phone and it landed on the phone’s already broken screen. The phone worked fine, but the touch screen showed no signs of life. I went to Walmart and spoke with a really smart tech guy who didn’t know my history of breaking screens, so I knew he wouldn’t look at me like, “You broke......

A Cup of Hot Chocolate

I read this today and it’s a “KEEPER!”    A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor now retired.  During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups – porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the......

Earth's Septic Tank

I have a septic tank at my house. More precisely, I have what is called a “sand filter.” They say that when the sewage is broken down in the septic tank and then pumped through the sand filter, it’s clean enough to drink. Hmm, any takers?  I didn’t think so. Did you know that the ocean is like a big septic tank? Here’s something interesting about the ocean: It covers 2/3 of the earth’s surface, and the average depth is 1.3 miles. The ocean is a salty brine that purges and cleanses......

Fathers, "Be Careful"

A child is not likely to find God as a Father unless he finds something of God in his father. Simple, but profound isn’t it? I’m amazed how much time fathers spend providing the necessary life needs of his family. It takes more work and longer hours to accomplish this and most dads that I know, willingly make that sacrifice. Yet that doesn’t seem to be the greatest concern on the heart of God the Father. His concern is a bit different. Deuteronomy 8:10–13 (NLT) 10 When you have eaten your fill,......

Help! My Chimney is on Fire!

We have heated our home for over 40 years with wood. It’s the best. In the early morning with a hot cup of coffee and a gentle snow fall, life is good. The wood we burn is dry, but that has not always been the case. Over the years I have had several chimney fires because I burnt wet wood and the creosote that formed in the chimney caught fire. Nothing burns hotter than a chimney fire. It will crack the concrete blocks that form the chimney and cause an internal fire......

It’s good to be home! I feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. “There’s no place like home.” Now, I didn’t have magic shoes to click together or a Toto to carry. Instead I traveled for 30 hours and Cooper was there to meet me! Still, “There’s no place like home!” That’s what this Sunday morning service is all about …”There’s no place like home.” Next week, 14 small groups meet to begin the church wide campaign, “The Family Project.” If you haven’t signed up, then do so this Sunday morning. You......

This Christmas I gave each of my grandchildren a photo album with pictures that dated back to the birth of their parents. I also included photos of their grandparents and great-grandparents. It was fun to watch the memories unfold on Christmas morning as everything else was set aside to reminisce about, “remember the time?” Memories connect us to our past and become a platform on which we build our future. We make new ones each day. It’s important to know where you came from; it is a testimony that validates your life.......

About 7 years ago I stopped alongside of the road and bought a short needle Christmas tree from a little girl who was selling them. I took it home and was so proud of my deal, and of course happy to help the little girl sell her trees. Now she could buy a Christmas present for her mom and dad. The next morning every needle on the tree was on the ground! Every single needle! It was frozen and my warm wood stove thawed it out, releasing the needles. I bought another......

This is a photo of Dorald speaking to the 38 children who are preparing for the Christmas Pageant this weekend. She was giving them instructions, and they lost their focus on her and began to laugh. Wondering why, she looked down to her right, and there was Indy, watching everything! She had no idea he was standing there. He was quietly watching everything that was going on. Dorald & Indy I wonder what he was thinking while he stood quietly by Grandma’s side? Maybe, “I wonder if I can go up there......
